Location and geography

Antalya is known as Turkish riviera on the coast of Mediterranean Sea and located in the south of Türkiye. Antalya is Türkiye’s foremost tourism center and indeed one of the most important tourism centers of the world. Tourism is one of the main focuses of the economy of the city and the province of Antalya.

Currency

The Turkish Lira is the official currency of Türkiye. Bank notes come in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 TL. Coins come in the amounts of 5, 10 and 25 Kurus and 1 Lira.

ATMs

ATMs can be found all around the country. All of them offer foreign language options and pay out Turkish liras. Cash withdrawal limits vary from bank to bank and are around 5.000 TL.

Changing money

Foreign exchange offices, which are known as “döviz bürosu” can be found throughout the country. Operating hours are mostly Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 17:00. In the arrivals section of the airports there are 24-hour open exchange offices. Also the exchange offices located in shopping malls and touristic areas are open later and on Saturdays. US Dollars and Euros are also accepted at the hotels but rates are often not competitive.

Credit Cards

Credit cards are widely used and accepted. Visitors can use their Visa, Mastercards, Amex and Diner’s.

220 volt, 50 cycle. Most hotels have a receptacle with 110 volts. Socket type is standard European two-pin.

Nature & Climate

The area is shielded from the northerly winds by the Taurus Mountains. Antalya has a hot summer Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and mild and rainy winters. Around 300 days of the year are sunny, with nearly 3,000 hours of sunlight per year. The mean sea temperature ranges between 16 °C (61 °F) in winter and 27 °C (81 °F) in summer.The highest record air temperature reached 45 °C (113 °F) in July which normally averages as high as 34.4 °C (93.9 °F) and the lowest record dropped to −4 °C (25 °F) in February, when the low average is as low as 6.1 °C (43 °F).

Tipping

Tipping is well accepted in Türkiye as in other parts of the world and is at your discretion. It is customary to tip hotel porters, and a gratuity of about 5-10% is usual in restaurants. However you do not need to tip if service charge is added to bill as is the case at some hotels and restaurants.

There is a wide choice of restaurants in Istanbul offering everything from excellent national cuisine to international dishes. Traditional Turkish cuisine is famous for its many specialties prepared with fresh vegetables.
